Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric dentists are dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teen years. They have the experience and qualifications to care for a child's teeth, gums, and mouth throughout the various stages of childhood. At Upper Dublin Family Dentistry we see Children of all ages.

Sealants

Sealants applied to the chewing surfaces of your teeth where it bonds to the tooth and hardens. Sealants can help prevent tooth decay from occurring in the first place or stop small areas from becoming larger. Sealants last several years before reapplication which can be conducted during a normal dental visit. Because the likelihood of developing pit and fissure decay begins early in life, sealants are often thought to be a childhood procedure. But adults can also benefits from the procedure too.

Tips for your child's diet and dental health

  • Ask your dentist to help you assess your child's diet.

  • Shop smart! Do not routinely stock your pantry with sugary or starchy snacks.

  • Limit the number of snack times; choose nutritious snacks.

  • Provide a balanced diet, and save foods with sugar or starch for mealtimes.

  • Don't put your young child to bed with a bottle of milk, formula, or juice.

  • If your child chews gum or sips soda, please choose those without sugar.

Emergency Steps for Saving a Knocked-Out Tooth

1. Pick up tooth by the crown (the chewing surface) not the root.

2. If dirty, gently rinse tooth with water.

If dirty, gently rinse the tooth with water, remembering not to handle the root surface.

Do not use soap or chemicals.

Do not scrub the tooth.

Do not dry the tooth.

Do not wrap it in a tissue or cloth.

3. Reposition tooth in socket immediately, if possible.

4. Keep tooth moist at all times.

The tooth must not be left outside the mouth to dry. If it cannot be replaced in the socket, put it in one of the following:

  • Emergency tooth preservation kit

  • Milk

  • Patient's Mouth (next to cheek)

  • If none of these is practical, use water (with a pinch of salt, if possible).

5. See us within 30 minutes.

* We recommend supervised brushing up to age 8.
